Five of the most exciting up and coming Spanish artists will be participating in the first edition of IN FLUX, a yearly project which comprises a touring group show and the publication of a catalogue in English and Catalan.
IN FLUX gathers the work of five of the most exciting talents in visual arts to emerge from the Balearic Region of Spain in recent years. Although many of the artists included are already represented in some of the most important international collections including the MoMa New York, and Guggenheim NY, this is the first time their works are shown in the UK.
By gathering these artists into one space, the exhibition sheds light on the shared experiences and inputs which have inspired a generation of artists who draw inspiration from a cultural crossroad, where identity is defined by those who challenge it.
The exhibition In Flux at Truman’s Brewery in East London offers a glimpse of the art being produced today in another Mediterranean archipelago, that of Spain’s Balearic Islands in Spain.
The Balearics occupy a curious position, an unusual kind of at-sea crossroads. They are as close to Italy as they are to Madrid, and closer to France than to either. The distance from Palma to Algiers is only slightly greater than the distance from Palma to Barcelona. They are part of the Spanish nation but not of the Iberian Peninsula; their people speak Catalan but do not belong to Catalunya.
